Dude, thanks a lot. The Ubuntu Community Help site seems to have the command-line equivalent of your instructions but for some reason that did not work and yours did.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pity that to follow your instructions, an Internet connection is needed. Can be a pain if there is no wired Internet nearby.
Glad it helped you Anjan!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a pain that an internet connection is needed to install ndiswrapper. I'm sure that there's a way to do it offline.
A quick google search for "install ndiswrapper offline" turned up - http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-177537.html ?
Hi Nick,
ReplyDeleteCan u help me.
I tried the above steps as well as also taken the help from Ubuntu community link.
It worked for a system.
But I have one more system too in which i follow above four step but after fourth step i get "hardware present" but it doesn't look for wifi after fourth step.
regards,
Harish
Hi Harry,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, apologies for the late response. Secondly, I'm not sure I've got enough information to be able to help diagnose the problem. Can you help me out? Are you getting any error messages? (or have you managed to resolve the problem since your original post?)
Hello Nicholas.
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem as a Harry. I've installed ndiswrapper and installed the driver. When I print "ndiswrapper -l" I see:
sl@sl-pc:~/Downloads/wg311v3_ndis$ ndiswrapper -l
wg311v3 : driver installed
device (11AB:1FAA) present
but when I print " iwconfig" I see this:
sl@sl-pc:~/Downloads/wg311v3_ndis$ iwconfig
ppp0 no wireless extensions.
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
What I did wrong?
PS. I use Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2
I've got it))
ReplyDeleteI installed
sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-dkms
and then execute command:
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
That's all
Brilliant, thanks Вячеслав Лаказов! Hopefully that helps Harry some other people!
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Nick
OMG.... These last couple of days have been brutal. I first tried 12.04 cuz of it being the latest. But have had the worst time trying to get the wireless driver to work properly along with a graphics driver which crashed my system. Long story short I gave up on 12.04 and installed ubuntu 11.04 and followed your instructions. Thanks so much for making this nightmare end!
ReplyDeleteGlad it helped, I haven't tried lately with "Precise Pangolin" 12.04. May give it a go if I get some spare time!
ReplyDeleteNot working with Ubuntu 12.04 64bit
